[ABF in Seoul] Polaris to unveil EOSIO-based blockchain platform

Project designed to help DApps thrive freely

Polaris will unveil what has been achieved in its project to develop the EOSIO-based blockchain platform.

Polaris said it will have time to introduce the platform to the public during the Chain Partners Project Showcase, which will be held on Oct. 31 as part of the ABF in Seoul, the first blockchain conference hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The testnet for the Polaris project will be disclosed in the fourth quarter of this year and its mainnet will be released in the second quarter of next year.

Polaris, an in-house venture of the blockchain company builder Chain Partners, has been engrossed in the project since making public its plan to develop the blockchain protocol in an EOS meet-up in Seoul in May. It puts top priority on securing an advantage in performance but primarily aims to build a blockchain network that can be used more conveniently by DApps. Choi Yong-seok, who is leading the project, said, “We hope to create a platform where DApps armed with good ideas can thrive freely and diverse businesses can be applied well.”

Toward that end, Polaris added a few independent functions to the existing EOSIO platform. Consensus algorithm “Sparkle” is a prime example. Unlike EOS having 21 Block Producers (BPs), Polaris begins with 22 BPs. This figure could increase but there is no limit to the number of BPs. The rankings of BPs will be decided by “profession scores,” not simply by vote. The scores are measured by token holders’ support, specifications of systems used to produce blocks and several other factors and will be disclosed transparently. “This is intended to encourage more teams to take part in the Polaris platform,” Choi said.

Also, there is a method to relieve DApps of financial burden. Developers of EOSIO-powered DApps are usually troubled by the obligation to possess certain amounts of tokens. To help ease this problem and encourage software development, Polaris will set aside 20% of total tokens for DApps, which will be chosen fairly through public auditions and meetings.

Polaris takes pride in its “multichain mainnet,” which consists of a prime chain containing overall operating information and a companion chain designed to power DApps. DApps can set up their functions flexibly on the companion chain and build business models independently.

Polaris said it will announce details on the platform’s technical features and future objectives in the Oct. 31 showcase. “Our ultimate goal is to enable people from all over the world to use blockchain more conveniently,” Choi said.
